i could put something together. everything that leapt to mind involved black and white photos of the kansas city skyline, which isn't actually a good idea. but i do have some good pictures of downtown back alleys and private parking garages and other good weird shit, all in the digital camera that i don't know where it is.
short version is, yeah, i'll work on something

sounds like the comp is just focusing on the punk side of kc, but last time i checked hardcore and punk came from the same place. i'm not talking about cheesy heartless wanna hc kids playing metal, kc actually has real hcpunk, break down the fvcking walls

hey mah, KC has tons of great hardcore bands. this is just a cross-section of that. it's just not possible to fit every band in KC on a 12" LP. i honestly do not think we are just focusing on punk at all... and just to get things straight, hardcore is punk, punk is hardcore. we feel that all of the bands on the comp are definitely hardcore punk. there's no denying that. we've got a good variety of bands that have been in the scene for a real long time, bands that have just started going, and brand new bands. and trust me, just because a band is not on this particular record, doesn't mean anything as far as teir talent, integrity, heart, passion, etc. is concerned. it just means that a 12" LP has 34 minutes of time before you start losing quality.
i appreciate constructive criticism and all, that's great, i'm glad you're passionate! but i definitely disagree with your statement of how the comp is focusing on the punk side hc.... if you could elaborate on that in a positive and constructive manner, i can try to give you my best response. just remember man, hardcore is punk, punk is hardcore... think bad brains, minor threat, black flag... all legendery hardcore punk, punk hardcore bands.

dude i totally appreciate what you're doing with the comp and all, much respect. i guess what i'm trying to say is that some of the bands so far on the comp seem to have a similar sound, and more diversity could be added. everyone knows birds of a feather flock together and you know just like i do that certain people label themselves by the crowd they hang with (hc kids, thrash kids, skins, hippies, crust kids, edge kids, street punx, etc. (it shouldn't be this way but thats life)) So if hardcore is punk, and punk is hardcore and all the above subcultures are apart of the hardcore punk scene (except maybe the hippies, sorry anybody), i think that the comp should be more well represented by bands within' all the subcultures of hc punk. correct me if i'm wrong but i don't remember seeing any Oi!, old schoolers, or any edge bands on the comp. not my favorite local band but what about IGK as an example, someone out there checkin' out this comp might be pulled in by that "cross-section" of hardcore punk. i'm for unity, and if you're not that's you're own thing, if you are this comp could be a positive step in *"break"ing "down the walls".

i can't speak for any of the people in charge of this but it seems like all the bands on it are kind of part of the same scene, in the sense that they play shows together and are involved together in things like this. whereas i'd never heard of IGK until, uh, now.
i guess i don't see why this is the moment at which we arbitrarily ought to get involved with the oi or straightedge scenes. if they were involved in what this comp is documenting-- which, you're right, doesn't reflect everyone in the city that defines themselves as punks or whatever-- then they'd be represented on it already. if people and bands involved in all these distinct things want to have more interaction in the future, then that's what'll happen. but if it's guys from this particular subset of the "scene" that took the initiative to put a comp together, it's kind of up to them what they want to put on it, you know? there's no reason some of these hardcore bands you aren't mentioning by name can't put together their own record, too.
again, though, don't think i'm speaking for jordan or justin or anyone besides myself here. they may disagree with me completely on a lot of this. i can think of a few bands on this thing, us included, that don't sound like anything i've heard described as "hardcore punk" before. but you've also got to understand that to put a label like that to something, it's not as if by naming it you've somehow discovered what it really is. it's just a word. the reality is these are a bunch of bands from KC that hang out and play shows together.

all points well taken!
i still don't think we are putting up any walls however... whether or not we are actively breaking down walls can be fair game for debate.
there are bands that are great, and that i personally like as people and musically and ethically and all that jazz that are not on the comp... there are bands that i wish we had space for on the record. and there are bands that regardless of personal taste, can be argued as being very deserving of being on the record.
for this next fact i cannot really come up with a pc or morally just explaination, or one which will come off with a nicer tone, so i'll just do it as bluntly and possibly the worst way i could as possible. when it comes down to it, the two people (with human emotions, and personal friends, and specific tastes) who are putting this record out have the final say. that's it. that said, i really hope we don't come off as some record label scum like the dude in 'airheads' we're just two kids trying to do something for the scene.
which brings another point... we still don't have a name. and we're not looking to exclude every other band in the scene with this title we seek. i.e. we won't call it "these are the only bands worth a shit in KC"
which comes back 'round to the first point of this post.
there are bands not represented that could/should/would/be. get your motor running and put out something else, another comp! it would be great! or book some shows, that's even better! there's no better way to bring kids together than through music!
unother unorganized comment... you are definitely right, some of the bands do sound similar to each other on the record. none of the bands, however, are carbon copies of specific styles.
please don't accuse of being 'not' for unity... that is just ridiculous.
ok in summation this is what is what: we are putting out a comp for the scene! you do something for the scene now too! it seems we have the same goals of bettering the KC hardcore and punk and whatever we choose to label ourselves as uh, scene. this comp is not a bible for the KC underground. simply put, it's a compilation of "a bunch of bands from KC that hang out and play shows together. "

hey, about the recording. what's OK with you guys in terms of using samples on this? there was one from an old record of organ music, and one from a movie from the 70s, we were considering using. the song works fine without them though.
