Once upon a time, there was a city that seemed virtually devoid of avenues for writers to express themselves without compromising their integrity. That city was Kansas City, and for a few of it's long-time residents, it was becoming unbearable. You see, it seemed that every time any one of us was presented an opportunity to extend ourselves to an audience greater than our own circle of friends, we were also presented with stipulations, censorship, and, in essence, a very rigid framework with which we were to work with. And we dealt with it. And dealt with it. And continued to deal with it until we were out of school, either by means of graduation, or apathy. Then, we had nothing. Until now.
We are Warwick BeLoVeD, independent publishing. We feel that if you've got a voice, and you've got talent, then you deserve to be heard. Why do the big guys at publishing companies, or the little guys at university funded magazines feel like they have the right to change your writing? "We'd love to publish you, you've got a great voice, just take out the Tim character, and change the ending..this will be really marketable!" We wont say that. We don't do that. We're not selling anything, we're just providing an outlet for you, and for ourselves. In other words, we will publish you. In fact, we will publish you with other like-minded individuals (including ourselves, for we are not only forefathers, but we are also our own best customers), in a weekly lit magazine called The Comp. We are taking submissions immediately, as we are going to press by the end of this week, or the beginning of next week.
Email BIGHFUNK@HOTMAIL.COM for more information, as well as submissions. Please keep in mind, funding comes directly out of our pockets, so longer stories may have to wait a while to come out...we're poor. But if it's good, we promise we'll find a way.
