[Talking about thousandaires' blog post] Who the fuck do we really need to protect ourselves from ummm? sounds like you and your bullshit crew! You say "what happened to the unity" but your talking about dividing the scene not uniting it.Violence & segregation umungst our little scene is deffinatly not the answer. Use you head & wake up there's no reason to start your fascist policing of our local shows. What if you were singled out because someone thought that you didn't belong! Nobody likes a bully so i think your FSUKC crew can just FUCK OFF! --THANX--KCPUNX

I don't know... I don't think shit like this has anything to do with hardcore (hence why I put it in quotes in my first post). As corny as it is, when I think of hardcore, I think of bands that got me into punk and were once considered hardcore, like Circle Jerks and Void. I guess it's just called "punk rock" nowadays, but I distinguish that second wave/hardcore scene from the three chord, more intellectual one before it.
And most crap considered hardcore by the mainstream post-1984 just fails to interest me too much. When I heard Earth Crisis and Hatebreed, I thought that it was musically too derived from stadium metal.
I think the thing that makes me really dismiss it from the realm of hardcore punk is the attitude, though... The original groups were about having fun, and these bands don't give off that vibe whatsoever. It's kind of pseudo-militaristic, conformist bullshit. No offence to XNickX, I don't think all hardcore kids are assholes... I'd say that even though I don't get down with that scene, it's still one where the minority of people take it too far and end up misrepresenting everybody.

on the topic of what's hardcore i'd say that void and the circle jerks (at least the group sex record anyway) are still hardcore.
all that stuff like shattered realm and that whole deal isn't hardcore. that's metalcore with all the chugga chugga stuff and what not. same deal with earth crisis, hatebreed, etc.
there's still tons of real hardcore bands around and there always have been. but then starting around late 84-85 there was the whole crossover deal where all these hardcore bands started adding metal elements like agnostic front etc etc.
from then on there has always been a sub-genere of hardcore that's all metal and for the most part it has almost always been pretty stupid and thuggish.
those bands didn't displace hardcore they're just a tiny crappy part of it.

p.s.
not that i'm the fashion police or anything 'cause i sure dress like crap but what's the deal with metalcore bands where they always seem to have at least one dude with one of the following:
1. sportswear 2. goatee 3. gold chains 4. weight lifter body type
wtf?
is that hardcore?

I don't know... Then what about Spazz and the countless other bands who have metallic elements, but are actually awesome?
How is the metallic/crossover thing a tiny part of a good scene when there are more "metal" hardcore bands than ones influenced by Minor Threat, Bad Brains, Black Flag, etc.?
Oh yeah, to answer your question, the thug/gangsta get up has been required fashion for that sort of mindset, it seems. Dating all the way back to the Suicidals on the West Coast and Agnostic Front in the East...

spazz is definitely not a band that would be related to crossover or metalcore, they just have occasional metal sprinkled on top here and there. but i'd say that's no different from overt rock stuff thrown into even the great period of black flag. they were 98% punk/hc with a little other stuff thrown in. the metalcore bands are about 98% metal/rock with a little essence of punk mixed in.
suicidal tendencies weren't sportsgear until way later and only kind of even then. they just wore plain ass clothes like flannels plain t-shirts and dickies. not jock wear. well at least not until that deal was already stinking up new york.
not to say that i don't like some crossover and some metal. it just kind of bugs me when its mistaken for hardcore or punk.
it's like this, i can put on a d.r.i. record and jam out or at the gates or all kinds of stuff, if i like it i like it. but confusing metalcore for hardcore is like confusing the beatles with bad brains. two different worlds.

I was talking more about the kids who wear bandanas and gang shit. Suicidals were the first band (or so I've read) to wear gang street clothing, and not long after the New York guys started copying...
I think Spazz is really metal-influenced, though. I guess it depends how metal you think Napalm Death and late-80's/early 90's grind is, though. Their change-ups and sometimes their picking flow into crossover mode sometimes... Like at the end of "Sweet Home Alabama." They also seem kinda sludge/experimental-influenced. They are just influenced by different metal, though, than say, Poison the Well. It makes a huge difference... Like between St. Vitus and Poison.

IT'S WHY THEY'RE PLAYING THE MUSIC!! jeez metal and punk are just words!!! a disposition is not even covered, or to be judged... but there's a huge difference between a dude who plays metal to get STATUS or play or whatever, and a dude who rocks out because shit is fuckin' bullshit. goodnight! ps: that weird kind of xhcx is usually made by people who aren't in nearly enough PAIN. come on, they like "the internet"-, ha! i guess that's why they make it so difficult by having man-contests. HAHAHA, TRENDS!!
