Check out today's NY times, thats tuesday NOV 29th. There is an article on the KC art scene and rising rent rates in the crossroads.
There is also a picture of Nancy and Burak at the thunderdome. Fuck yeah - i know those people.

Go get a copy and take it to YJ's to have Nancy sign it!

While your at it, check out the article in the A section on Bushs' ideas on immigration policy and the fight with in the republican party over the immigration issue. This will be the next big push from the right. There are some pretty extreme solutions proposed. I think immigration will be i big issue in the 2006 midterm elections.

i was very surprised to find out that laszlo is apparently a member of crap corps. hahaha.

the dude is in two bands last time i checked, and somehow he author didn't list either of them.

Is everyone at the pitch that lazy? Oh! And while I appreciated the article, I still found it slightly insulting. Maybe another result of detachment and laziness.

i don't know about that article. we joked about it at genghis khan that day, particularly the "couldn't be any whiter if..." whatever part, since a lot of the people at the table were not white.

then i talked with laszlo about it at the show that night, and, as he pointed out, almost everyone in the room was white, and almost everyone who wasn't had been at genghis khan earlier.

yeah i thought it was a little insulting too. it seemed like it casually scratched the surface of a pretty big issue and didn't really bother to think about or analyze it much. i mean you can even connect the dots within the article-- i have to wonder if maybe the lack of appeal for people who aren't white has to do with how maybe people who have had to live in real poverty don't really want to fetishize the signifiers of poverty?-- but the writer didn't even get to that. also i can't figure out why they talked to alain rather than any other person who isn't white and actually goes to shows. i guess that's all the depth you have room for on one tabloid page of text, though, so given that limitation they did kind of OK

well alain set up the afropunk showing...and thats why she wrote it in the first place. i dunno maybe she coulda talked to a few more kids but whatever....

there's a lot that you can talk about within the subculture of punk in regards to race and class and unfortunately there's only so much you can cover in a one page story.

besides the facts being kinda mixed up, i thought it was a decent article.
