back of dave! i totally played with that band at gee coffee in '97! i hadn't heard of them since. that's awesome. what's it like? i have no recollection.
huston- i totally bought trans. "computer cowboy" is my favorite.
lately, i've been listening to African funk/pop music from the 60's, 70's and early 80's. i got the "pirate's choice" cd by orchestra baobab. it's awesome. it's not totally African music, but it also has African musicians interpreting Latin music. If anyone is interested, check out a cd called "World Psychedelic Classics Vol. 3" it's not really psychedelic. just good. i especially like Orchestre Poly-Rhythmo de Cotonou Dahomey and Moussa Doubia. Additionally, the Nigeria 70 compilation is worth checking out. And the Ethiopiques compilations, if anyone saw Broken Flowers, they took the main song from Ethiopiques Vol. 4. Maybe you could find MP3's.
I bought a Kimya Dawson cd this summer after several people raved about her second performance in Lawrence. I didn't like it, I thought her singing was obnoxious. I'd still like to see her live; that's changed my mind on performers before.
the new anxiety attack recording from black lodge sounds fantastic.

today: playing air drums to yaphet kotto: "syncopated..." in the car the rumble of the metro bus as i shot a short film starring two guys named chris.
that's about it really...you guys listen to a shit ton of records in one day. good job.
as for mike's comments on kimya dawson. i love that girl. she does have a funny little voice. but i think its really cute. her songs are really heartfelt and she doesnt mind using really silly pop culture references (third eye blind, thundercats, and anthrax to name a few). i dunno. its really sincere and makes feel really good and warm inside. hard to explain. i'm beginning to think her music is the kind of thing you either really love or really hate.

man, does anyone else have seasonal listening tastes? in the summertime, if i listen to punk, it has to be kind of poppy, like the minutemen, or the buzzcocks, or mission of burma, stuff like that. mostly this summer i just listened to sam cooke and steve martin records. i can't deal with something like los crudos until at least october. let alone rudimentary peni. that's like... december. at least, dude.
not that this stuff isn't good year round, it just feels weird listening to THE BODY on the way to worlds of fun.
