gorilla angreb - bedre tider 12" expired youth - 7" black flag - licorrice pizza (boot) 7" no hope for the kids - angels of destruction 7" wasted youth - reagan's in+ 12 (boot) LP asbest - klaustrofobi 7" artificial peace / second wind - split (boot) LP (both crucial 81-83 dc hardcore bands, well artificial peace is totally crucial and second wind is alright but they're lyrics are dumb but they're good for the geek factor becasue they were a kinda dc hardcore super group with members of minor threat, double-o, etc. and their record cover art was done by jeff nelson blah blah) all of these boots can be ordered from the fine folks at sound idea - i highly recommend the split LP for the artificial peace stuff, and the black flag deal is rad too. it's two well recorded live tracks from 81 plus a never before released version of spraypaint with dez on vocals from the damaged LP demos. the two live tracks are life of pain and thirsty & miserable, these are the first two tracks ever recorded with henry on vocals.)

Wasted Youth don't get a fair shake because of the dumb lyrics, but if you totally disregard that aspect, they sound like the speed of East Coast meets the rockiness of the West Coast. It's awesome.
Also, I think members of WY were in Redd Kross. I don't know many people that like RK. Anyone in KC like them? Their first album is one of the few ever perfect punk records, definitely up there with Circle Jerks, Wasted Youth, and the Germs, but maybe a little more rock n roll oriented and not trying to be so fast.

Also, I think members of WY were in Redd Kross. I don't know many people that like RK. Anyone in KC like them? Red Cross rules. Everything they recorded with their original name spelling is rad. Songs like "burnout" and "annette's got the hits" are classic. I like about half of the first Redd Kross LP too but not nearly as much. But yeah they're one of those bands that doesn't get much credit from the early california punk scene. Maybe it becasue like White Flag they put out some amazing early material then stuck around wayyyy too long and put out a ton of crap after that so all most people ever hear or come across is the crap.

Justin, how's that Gorilla Angreb shit? i've been debating buying it. simple answer: its awesome drawn out music fanatic answer: its really awesome. okay, so some people might take issue with the fact that they totally ape the vocal melodies and harmonizing of X. this is true and can't be argued against, they really really sound like they desperately want to be "wild gift" period X. my take on it though is this: what the fuck? X put out two and a half of the best american punk records recorded from the first wave and then didn't do a damn thing worth listening to in about 25 years. so if a band from denmark can pull off that sound andmake it fresh and exciting again a quarter of a century later, i say hell yeah. if you like X you should love gorilla angreb. seriously get the "bedre tider" 12" or the "astma" 7" 'casue they're both amazing and deserve every bit of hype.
