Against Me (shame on them, they get no "!".) signed to Sire... for anyone who cares. Has anyone cared about them for the last two and a half years anyway?
I guess it makes me pretty cool to have never liked them, anyway. Though I've seen them 4 times because of my friends.
Oh well, bands that care about making money with their music don't deserve any respect. If your primary means of financial gain is your music, then you aren't making art. Obviously.

my old roommate bought their never going home dvd or whatever it was called, and i watched it with him. the whole time they were meeting with big record company fucks and basically talking about how they were just scamming them for drinks and how they couldn't sign to any major label because of the obvious reasons that they apparently never really meant, or just weren't as important as the money. i'd kind of like to watch that dvd again just because now it would have a whole new level of humor.

against me are the nicest of dudes. in fact they are only band that has ever sent me a thank you note for booking them a show. i'm actually really happy for them. and am excited that kids will be listening to them instead of other shitty stuff. i'm all about the "gateway" band especially one thats actually not that bad. but of course i'm sure all of you got into punk rock directly through Havoc Records right? Green Day? Rancid? Blink 182? uhhh....no way man...uh.....never heard of em. much love, laszlo my gateway bands: Rancid, Beastie Boys (thanks to their Minor Threat cover), and of course....Nirvana!

I am not strictly anti-major, but you know, The Hives never called me a "spineless liberal." There are ways to have lots of fans and good distro and not work with huge labels... Look at Dischord or G7, and to a lesser extent, Fat or Epitaph.
Also, given the well-known governmental affiliations of Clear Channel, it's pretty obvious to me that playing in those venues almost exclusively instantly nulls and voids any political statement you're trying to make. In some places, there's no other choice, but in most cities, there is.

i don't buy that playing in some place nullifies your politics one way or another. i guess if it's the RNC or something. wait actually, that's not a bad idea... almost...
where i do agree with you though is that against me!!!!!!!!!!!!! has now officially been fronting. a lot. and over a long period of time. not so cool.
gateway bands are definitely all right though.

I think they're great. I don't really think much about anything after reinventing axl rose, but I appreciate them anyway. I guess the scene needs a new scapegoat every couple years. I say its finally Green Day's turn, not Against Me. AM! has got a couple years left before they wring out every last drop of usefulness from their music.

i didn't really flip out about that band like errbody else did a few years ago, but i sure do hope that that guy bought some voice lessons with his newfound dollaz.
regardless of their "politics", they were never really that punk. that was pop music to a tee. they've got it down. they're doing exactly what they always wanted to.

"but i sure do hope that that guy bought some voice lessons with his newfound dollaz." awww... that's not punk rock. low blow "regardless of their "politics", they were never really that punk" I don't know if I agree but I won't argue with that... but is that the metric system of measurement or in inches?

Dude,
It just shows that you are not a punk. Remember the against me! lp on crasshole records, yes the lable that put out a//political (oh you dont remember them either). Shit man, Against me! is the punkest thing since black flag (who totally would have gone major if it was an option) , remember punk is about drinking beer and selling out. Grow up!

Dude, I still have Tom's spokenword split 7 inch with clips of Lenny Bruce on the B side in its original see-through vinyl pressing wrapped in mylar and buried in my backyard for safety.
I think everyone should have a copy of that. I ask people when I meet them "Do you have a copy of Tom's spokenword split 7 inch with clips of Lenny Bruce on the B side in its original see-through vinyl pressing?"
If they don't, they are most definitely "pop" rockers, not punks, because like, everyone had that record back in the day. We used to get drunk in our squat and listen to Lenny Bruce while the rest of you posers were out listening to the Knack or whatever.
